Confessions of a Google Addict

Okay. It's time. I have to come clean. I have a nasty little habit & it is called Google. If you have met me - and I mean even so much as randomly smiled at me on the street - I have Googled you by now.

I have often found myself hoping that the people I meet don't do the same thing to me. Although, as I went for a bit of a Google then it seems all evidence of said poetry is gone. I'm feeling a strange sense of loss!

I vowed I wouldn't do it when I started dating the subject of my last blog and I managed to actually hold off for a couple of months. It was all too much in light of the break up though & the very next day found me indulging in my guilty pleasure at the internet cafe. The fact that I didn't find a thing - not a single thing - was excessively odd (and believe you me, I tried every permutation of his name with all of my highly developed search engine skills). I have hence since decided that he must be an ASIO operative, in the Witness Protection Program, or just so not in this millenium!!

For here's the thing - everybody... EVERYBODY... in one way or another can be found on Google. It may not be useful information (such as a bucket load of angsty teen poetry courtesy of yours truly ) but it's there all the same!

My Mum's all over Google. My Brother's spattered here and there. All of my friend's can be successfully Googled. The guy that owns the cafe near my house is on Google. My Grandpa is on Google. Even my Dad - technophobe extrodinairre - made it onto Google (even if it is his obituary). But not this guy... that's just plain wierd, don't you think? Not to mention no fun!

A Safe Haven for My Inner Tee-A-Holic

I am in a constant struggle to find the perfect Tee - original design, great colour, under $100. I need look no further. At unetee, not only are all of these criteria fulfilled in spades, but they are in abundance & the site itself is a whole load of fun!

Each day, a different T-Shirt goes on sale.

Zen Story - If You Love, Love Openly

This hits a chord with me right now....!

If You Love, Love Openly

Twenty monks and one nun, who was named Eshun, were practicing meditation with a certain Zen master.

Eshun was very pretty even though her head was shaved and her dress plain. Several monks secretly fell in love with her. One of them wrote her a love letter, insisting upon a private meeting.

Eshun did not reply. The following day the master gave a lecture to the group, and when it was over, Eshun arose. Addressing the one who had written her, she said: "If you really love me so much, come and embrace me now."

Stress: it gets me every time. It invokes this marginally mad reaction that ends up with me going to bed at 4am still convinced that I'm not tired.

It is said that a brisk walk will help both stress and insomnia. When one is a single chicky living in a big, dark city however, a meandering walk down the information super highway (using my current favourite randomizer StumbleUpon).

Here's my favourites from tonight's meandering.

Nick Brandt

Stunning wildlife photography from Africa. Beautiful.

Nick's work is found amongst a stellar line up at the Young Gallery in Brussels. Among the other photographers are Greg Gorman & Michael Eastman.

Random Einstein Quotes
I can't vouch for their authenticity & don't have the patience to trawl through Bartlett's to check it but some fabulously interesting thoughts indeed (not very conducive to ending insomnia). the one that tripped me off the most was:

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we
created them."

Well actually, I stopped reading the list half way through. Unfortunately, my attention span becomes shorter as the hour gets longer!

Jackson Pollock

Create your own Jackson Pollock style artwork. Perfect entertainment for the easily amused & over active brain!

Computer Programmer or Serial Killer?
Amusing and disturbing all n the same click. Take the quiz to find out whether you could spot a serial killer from a computer programmer. Luckily I scored 9/10!

Genius on Paper
The drawing of Leonardo Davinci. I bookmarked this for another time, as the intricacies in these sketches are beautiful - and a little warped at times.

Who Needs Ready, Steady, Cook?

Have you ever seen that show Ready, Steady, Cook? they take the contents of your shopping basket and create something from it. This site provides a list of ingredients to choose from that are in your fridge or cupboard accordingly. Unfortunately, the follow through recipies don't quite live up to the potential. Oh well, guess I'll just keep living my bachelorette's lifestyle & wandering the supermarket aisles looking for the guy from Ready, Steady, Cook.

The last thing I've found to keep me company on these long and winding nights is blogging. I've been more than a little tardy in my uptake but now it's a case of "Watch out world!! Prepare to be taken on a (slightly mad) ride!"

Welcome to Re-kreated.
